Guillemots — Kriss Kross video

New video from the Guillemots via Stereogum. It’s kind of (incredibly) low budget looking, almost entirely black, white and red, and falls prey to many a music video cliches but it’s still vaguely fun to watch and one of my favorite songs. I always listen to it while I put on my make-up pre-bar. I’m sorry, let me clarify: I used to always listen to it while I put on my make-up pre-bar. Now I just watch the Olympics.

Just like the rest of the internet, I am devastated to be muxtape-less. I’d been updating mine with my current favorites (and occasionally themed mixes) and then sharing them here and I’d compiled a great list of 12 new favorites I was excited to share. This certainly isn’t as awesome as muxtape, but I’ve uploaded the 12 songs to this box widget so you *should* be able to stream them in a similar fashion (you can’t see it on your dashboard though… sorry!). I’ve never used the box widget before so please let me know if you have any problems with it.

For the past several months, we have communicated our legal concerns with the site and repeatedly tried to work with them to have illegal content taken down. Muxtape was hosting copies of copyrighted sound recordings without authorization from the copyright owners. Making these recordings available for streaming playback also requires authorization from the copyright owners. Muxtape has not obtained authorization from our member companies to host or stream copies of their sound recordings.

Gaaaaaah this is all so disappointing.

My dad (who comandeered this blog), brother (who is cooler than me) and I are driving down to DC Friday morning and back the next day. It’s about nine hours each way and I’m in charge of the music.

I’m thinking more in terms of artists than songs. I think that having a playlist of songs by 10987419864 different artists is just going to highlight how long we have been in the car and if we can listen to a few (and by a few I mean more like 10) albums by artists whose music doesn’t get old after one song it might seem to go faster.

Anyone have any suggestions? So far I’m thinking The Fairline Parkway… one down, nine to go!

Playing on my brother’s desktop, which either used to be my computer or has all my old music from my old computer on it (not sure), and just found all the music I downloaded from 1998 (or whenever Napster came about) through 2006. This is pretty insane. Quite a trip down memory lane. This was recently played in itunes by him, so that’s why I picked it and also, I like it. Enjoy.

Really glad to find out all my old, old music is being stored somewhere…

I still love The Magic Numbers, they never get old.

They are fabulous. They do the best covers too.

The French have taken a bad rap in this country in the past several years but are actually cool in movies and music (and wine and cheese).
